UK residents all over are ready for the bright sunshine and warm waters of summer. Swap your raincoats for bikinis and board shorts because SUP season is finally here! It’s a whole lot easier to hit the water when the weather’s warm, but there are still some precautions to take before you launch your board.
Smart preparation will keep your body and board protected in even the strongest conditions of summer. Our team at iRocker put together your go-to source for getting ready for the exciting iSUP season.
Test Your Body With Targeted Exercises
The best way to spend your summer is out on the water with your SUP beneath you. Prepare to burn some serious calories with a targeted series of exercises. Before you launch into SUP season, warm up your muscles in all the necessary spots.
Plank: SUPing is a serious test of your core strength. Assume a plank position at least once a day for a week to prepare your body for the test to come. Strong abdominals are key to balance and maneuverability. Trust us, you’ll thank us later. Can’t hold a proper plank? No problem. Hold the position from your knees while keeping your abs engaged and shoulders strong. Hold this for 30 seconds and repeat five times each day.
Reverse Lunges:It’s hard to enjoy your SUP session without strong abs, but it’s nearly impossible to get anywhere on the water without powerful legs. We can’t think of a single waterway in the world that lacks wind, currents and waves. Strong calves and thighs are the difference between a day above water and a tumble into the sea. (Hey, that’s not the worst thing on a smoldering hot day.)
The extensor leg muscles need a good workout, and that’s exactly what they’ll get with these reverse lunges. Proper form is crucial — keep your back straight and your knees over your ankles while you move your body into a traditional lunge. Use the power of your back leg to push your body upright. Transition from a standing position and backward into a lunge. Voila! That’s all there is to it. Repeat this exercise 10-20 times on each side three times per day.
Get the Gear You Need for a Great Summer
The next few months are sure to be full of endless adventure! From the shores of Scotland to the picturesque coastline of the English Channel, the best way to elevate your getaways is to bring your paddle board along for the ride.
Make the most of your SUP experience with some of our favorite add-ons.
Premium Back Pack Carry Bag: This one can be a lifesaver when you’re on the road. Your iRocker or BLACKFIN comes with a standard travel bag, but nothing compares to the rigidness, versatility and comfort of the premium carry bag.
This bag might be even better than your favorite suitcase. We’re all about comfort and durability at iRocker, and that’s exactly what you get with this bag’s padded waist straps, padded shoulder straps and padded back support.
Cooler Deck Bag: Summer isn’t complete without cold drinks and great friends. Grab your group and stuff your cooler for a SUP session at your local waterway. No need to go ashore to refresh, either.
Easily strap your cooler to the front of your iRocker and fill it to the brim with cold water and great beer. Bonus tip: put a bottle of sunscreen in the cooler for a quick refresh when it’s time to reapply.
Keep Your Skin Safe From the Harmful UV Rays
We can’t think of a worse way to end a great summer than sun spots, wrinkles or worse. We make it our job to equip you with the tips and tools that protect your skin in even the strongest conditions.
Be smart! Don’t hit the water without a protective hat, strong SPF sunscreen and an SPF shirt. If you head out between the late morning and early afternoon, expect to feel the force of the sun at its peak. Cover every inch of your skin with SPF 50+ sunscreen and reapply as the bottle recommends.
Set Your Sights on the Best Year-Round SUP
Every iRocker and BLACKFIN board is built for SUPers of all shapes, sizes and skill levels. There isn’t a better investment to elevate your summer than an inflatable paddle board.
No need to save your money for outrageous train and airline fees or pricey board racks on your car. Inflatable paddle boards resist dents and dings, easily roll up into a travel case and compact enough to carry onto a plane.
